Суперечливий та розмаїтий, феномен «вікторіанського відродження» другої половини XX – початку XXI століття зазнає неоднозначних оцінок у сучасному літературознавчому дискурсі. На тлі беззаперечного визнання з боку як експертної спільноти (зокрема, Букерівською премію вшановано такі визначальні для «вікторіани» твори, як «The Siege of Krishnapur» Дж. Фаррелла, «Oscar and Lucinda» та «The True History of the Kelly Gang» П. Кері, «Possession» А. Байєтт), так і широкого читацького загалу, неовікторіанський роман як жанр, що експліцитно демонструє зв’язок із вікторіанською традицією, час від часу піддається критиці через «естетичну вторинність».
